Magnolia Park began in 1949 as the Watson family burial ground, on land given by Thomas Watson Sr., and was long known simply as the Watson Cemetery. Its earliest graves, predating the cemetery's formal founding, still lie beneath magnolia trees just behind the entrance. After a 2003 purchase the property was renovated into a full-service memorial park and mausoleum, and it remains locally owned. A companion cemetery, Magnolia Park South, was later established in nearby Bonaire.
