Brewton-Parker traces its origins to 1904, when Baptist minister John C. Brewton and McRae businessman Charles B. Parker helped found the Union Baptist Institute on land between Mount Vernon and Ailey in Montgomery County. The school opened on September 12, 1904 with about 160 students and seven teachers, and trustees renamed it the Brewton-Parker Institute in 1912 to honor its founders. Affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, the institution grew into a four-year liberal arts college and was renamed Brewton-Parker Christian University in 2025.
