Fairview Cemetery is one of four burial grounds that together make up the Madison Historic Cemeteries, a large complex at the western edge of town whose separate sections trace the community's growth across successive generations. The grounds are arranged in quadrants — the Old (or Old Madison) Cemetery, the New Cemetery, Fairview, and Madison Memorial Park — divided in places by the railroad tracks that cut through the site. With well over 4,000 recorded burials, it is the most extensive cemetery in Morgan County, and a Georgia state historical marker stands on the grounds.
