Madison Memorial Cemetery

Madison Memorial Cemetery is one of the four burial grounds that make up the municipal cemetery complex serving Madison in Morgan County, tracing stages of the town's growth from the 19th century onward. It began in 1958 as Morgan Memorial Park, a privately operated lawn-style cemetery laid out with uniform flush markers, and was established during the segregation era with race-restrictive covenants limiting who could be buried there. The City of Madison later acquired the property, struck the racial restrictions from its deeds, and renamed it Madison Memorial Cemetery, folding it into the historic cemetery grounds that also include the Old Cemetery, a Confederate re-interment section, and Fairview Cemetery.
