Toccoa Falls College, a Christian and Missionary Alliance school on 1,100 acres bordering the Chattahoochee National Forest, grew up around Toccoa Falls, one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls east of the Mississippi. This walk carries you from the falls trailhead up to the historic campus, and past the memorials to the 1977 Kelly Barnes Dam flood, which killed 39 people and reshaped the college forever.

Toccoa Falls College was founded in 1907 by evangelist Richard A. Forrest, and its campus grew around Toccoa Falls, a 186-foot cataract counted among the tallest free-falling waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. On November 6, 1977, the earthen Kelly Barnes Dam above the campus gave way, sending a wall of water through the college and killing 39 people in one of Georgia's deadliest disasters. The Christian liberal-arts college rebuilt and continues to operate on its wooded 1,100-acre campus bordering the Chattahoochee National Forest.
