The Tour
Cougars, a downtown music campus, and a space science center. A self-guided Georgia Roam campus tour.
Columbus State University Campus Tour is a self-guided driving tour of Columbus, built around its campus side. It's one of 7 Georgia Roam tours in Columbus — each a different route through the city, on your own schedule.
The walk covers 5 stops over about 5.2 miles and roughly 1 hour 11 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
This driving tour links two sides of Columbus State that most visitors never connect. It starts with the leafy main campus, where brick academic buildings and the clock tower stand on land that was a dairy farm until the 1960s. Then it heads downtown, where the university has spread into Uptown Columbus near the Chattahoochee River.
Downtown, the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts houses the Schwob School of Music. The school has more than 70 Steinway pianos and a concert hall built around a large pipe organ, and students share the building with touring productions and the Columbus Symphony. A few blocks away, the Coca-Cola Space Science Center holds a planetarium, a public observatory and a collection of NASA artifacts that includes items flown on Gemini and Apollo missions. Back on the main campus, the Lumpkin Center is home court for Cougar basketball.
The route covers about five miles and takes a little over an hour with stops, so you'll want a car. Weekdays show the campuses at their busiest. For a longer visit, check the Space Science Center's hours or catch an evening concert at RiverCenter. The Georgia Roam app tells each stop's story as you arrive.
