The Tour
Founded in 1854 in the small courthouse town of Cuthbert, Andrew College holds the second-oldest charter in the United States granting a college the right to confer degrees on women. This compact 40-acre campus is anchored by Old Main, a soaring five-story Victorian landmark rebuilt in a single year after fire. This short walk visits Old Main and four of its historic neighbors.
Andrew College Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Cuthbert, built around its campus side.
The walk covers 5 stops over about 0.5 miles and roughly 40 minutes, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
This short walk circles one of Georgia's most striking small-college buildings. Old Main is a five-story Victorian landmark of towers, gables and tall windows. When fire leveled the campus in the spring of 1892, Cuthbert's residents raised money the next day, and the new building was ready that fall. Its floors once held the whole college under one roof, including faculty apartments, student rooms, classrooms, the chapel and the library.
Old Main is joined by a 1912 wing to Staples Hall, the former Warren Bush Hall of 1900, so the three oldest buildings read as one long historic block. You'll also see Jones Chapel, a 2001 worship space that reflects the college's Methodist roots, and the Pitts Library, named for the Methodist family whose gifts built the college's libraries in 1948 and the 1960s. The Jinks Physical Education Complex, home of the Fighting Tigers, is on the tour too, a reminder of Andrew's early lead in physical education for women.
The loop is about half a mile and takes well under an hour, which makes it an easy stop on a drive through southwest Georgia. Late-afternoon light on Old Main's red brick is especially good for photos. Downtown Cuthbert's courthouse square is a few blocks away. The Georgia Roam app tells each building's story as you arrive.
