The Tour

Collegiate Gothic beauty, an observatory, and a storied women's college. A self-guided Georgia Roam campus tour.

Agnes Scott College Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Decatur, built around its campus side. It's one of 2 Georgia Roam tours in Decatur — each a different route through the city, on your own schedule.

The walk covers 6 stops over about 0.6 miles and roughly 1 hour 48 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.

What you'll see

Agnes Scott's campus packs more than a century of architecture into a few shaded blocks of Decatur, and this short walk hits its landmarks. You'll start with the red-brick Victorian building everyone calls 'Main.' It opened in 1891 and is still the oldest building on campus. Students ring the bell in its tower when they land a job or get into graduate school. From there the style turns Collegiate Gothic, with pointed arches and stonework framing a tree-lined quad.

Along the way you'll pass Presser Hall, where Robert Frost read his poetry nearly every winter for almost 20 years, and McCain Library, whose arched reading rooms hold the college archives and a Frost collection. The walk ends at Bradley Observatory, which has been in use since 1950. Its dome houses a 30-inch telescope, and a planetarium sits behind it. Film fans may recognize the grounds, which played the fictional Windsor College in 'Scream 2.'

The loop is only about 0.6 miles, and it takes around an hour and 45 minutes if you linger at each stop. Late afternoon light on the quad is especially pretty. Spring, when the campus is in bloom, is a lovely time to come. Downtown Decatur's restaurants and MARTA station are a short walk away, and the Georgia Roam app tells each stop's story as you arrive.
