The Tour
Piedmont University began in 1897 as a mountain school in Demorest, in the foothills of Georgia's Blue Ridge. Its compact, 300-acre campus mixes a historic red-brick core with a lively arts district. This walk links the chapel and administration building to the university's public museum and its performing-arts venues.
Piedmont University Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Demorest, built around its campus side.
The walk covers 6 stops over about 0.9 miles and roughly 50 minutes, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
Piedmont's Demorest campus is compact and easy on foot, and this walk links its historic core with its arts district. Daniel Hall, the administration building, stands at the head of the red-brick quad, and the white-steepled chapel is close by. Its acoustics make it the main concert hall for Piedmont's choirs and orchestras.
In downtown Demorest, the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art opened in 2011 around a gift from a 1957 alumnus. It shows rotating exhibitions along with its permanent collection. On the east side of campus is the performing arts district: the Swanson Center has two theaters, and the nearby outdoor amphitheater sits under a sculpted metal roof.
The loop is just under a mile on foot and takes around 50 minutes. To see inside the museum, go Thursday through Saturday afternoon. For a concert or play, check Piedmont's fine arts calendar; fall and spring are the busiest seasons. Spring blossoms and fall color make the foothills especially pretty. The Georgia Roam app tells each stop's story as you arrive.
