The Tour

Chartered on May 10, 2005 and opened to students on August 18, 2006, Georgia Gwinnett College was the first four-year public college founded in Georgia in more than a century. Built to serve booming Gwinnett County, it grew from 118 students to roughly 12,000 in under two decades. This walk crosses its lettered academic buildings and LEED-certified library, from the signature front door to the student center.

Georgia Gwinnett College Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Lawrenceville, built around its campus side.

The walk covers 5 stops over about 0.6 miles and roughly 45 minutes, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.

What you'll see

Georgia Gwinnett College shows what a brand-new public college looks like when it is designed from scratch for a booming suburb. The campus was built in the 2000s rather than the 1800s. Most of its academic buildings go by letters instead of donors' names. This short walk covers the core that carried the college from 118 students in 2006 to more than 12,000 today.

You'll see the 300-seat Cisco Auditorium, where convocations and guest speakers take the stage, and the 2002 building that housed the college's very first classes. The Daniel J. Kaufman Library & Learning Center is named for the retired Army general who was GGC's founding president. The student center is the everyday hub of Grizzly life and also serves as the welcome point for campus visitors.

The walk covers about 0.6 miles and takes about 45 minutes, all on paved paths, so it is easy in any season. Weekdays during the semester show the campus at its busiest. Weekends are quieter and parking is simpler, which makes it easier to take in the architecture. The Georgia Roam app tells each building's story as you arrive.
