The Tour
Free, public art spaces across SCAD's downtown campus. A self-guided Georgia Roam tour of SCAD in Savannah.
SCAD Galleries & Public Art is a self-guided walking tour of Savannah, built around its campus side. It's one of 20 Georgia Roam tours in Savannah — each a different route through the city, on your own schedule.
The walk covers 4 stops over about 2.2 miles and roughly 1 hour 12 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
SCAD runs a string of free, public galleries downtown, and this walk links four of them. Expect a mix of student and alumni shows, work for sale through SCAD's art-sales program, and exhibitions by visiting artists. Past shows in these rooms have included Andy Warhol, Betye Saar, and Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
The buildings are part of the appeal. One gallery sits in a 1928 bank, another is tucked into a 1940s flour mill that now houses the painting department, and another opens onto the Broughton Street shopping district next to the college library. Exhibitions change often, so no two visits are the same.
Because the galleries are free, this is an easy add-on to a day downtown and a good plan for a rainy day. Hours vary, and some spaces close between exhibitions, so check SCAD's exhibitions calendar before you set out. The Georgia Roam app fills in each building's history and how the space is used as you arrive.
