The Tour

Eagles, live raptors, and the historic Sweetheart Circle core. A self-guided Georgia Roam campus tour.

Georgia Southern University Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Statesboro, built around its campus side.

The walk covers 6 stops over about 1.3 miles and roughly 1 hour 48 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.

What you'll see

Georgia Southern began in 1908 as a farm school in Statesboro, and this walk links its oldest grounds with the places that made it an Eagles town. The historic heart is Sweetheart Circle, an oak-shaded loop in front of the school's earliest buildings. For generations students have strolled it, proposed there and posed for graduation photos around the open-columned rotunda. Nearby, the main library faces the campus lake, and the brick academic quad shows how far the school has grown from its farm-school start.

The living highlight is the Center for Wildlife Education, a wooded teaching site where hawks, owls and other birds of prey are cared for and shown to visitors. It helps explain how a live bald eagle became part of Georgia Southern football. Sports fans will also see Paulson Stadium, where the Eagles built their championship reputation beside a stretch of water fans call Beautiful Eagle Creek. There's also a restored early-1900s farmhouse at the university's botanic garden, a quiet contrast to game-day Statesboro.

The walk is about 1.3 miles and takes a relaxed morning or afternoon. Weekday mornings are quiet, while fall Saturdays bring big crowds and tailgating around the stadium. The wildlife center, garden and nearby museum keep their own hours, so check them before you go. The Georgia Roam app plays each stop's story as you arrive.

Tour FAQ

How long does this tour take?

About 1 hour 48 minutes at an easy pace, covering 6 stops over roughly 1.3 miles. It's self-guided, so you can stop, skip or split it across days.

How do I take this tour?

Download Georgia Roam for iPhone or iPad from the App Store. The tour is included with GeorgiaRoam+, which unlocks every Georgia Roam tour and trail. Each stop's story plays when you arrive, using your phone's GPS. It isn't available on the web map.

Can I see the birds at the Center for Wildlife Education?

Yes. The center is open to visitors and runs bird-of-prey programs, but its hours are limited and some programs are seasonal, so check the university's wildlife center page first.

Where do I park?

On weekdays most campus lots require a permit. Visitor parking is available, and on weekends and during breaks the lots near Sweetheart Circle are much easier to use. Football Saturdays are the exception, when stadium lots fill early.

When is the best time to go?

Spring and fall weekday mornings, when the garden is in bloom and the heat is mild. Go on a home football Saturday if you want to see the stadium in full swing.
