The Story
The largest of Cumberland Island's cemeteries, this burial ground sits at the island's northern tip between Terrapin Point and Half Moon Bluff. It holds both Black and white residents of the north-end settlements; the African American graves are traditionally identified as those of enslaved people and their descendants who lived on the island from the Civil War era onward. Officially named High Point and also called the Half Moon Bluff cemetery, it has since been enclosed with fencing.
