History
Kennesaw State University was chartered by the Georgia Board of Regents on October 9, 1963, part of a wave of new colleges created under Governor Carl Sanders's pledge to place a college within commuting distance of nearly every Georgian. It opened in the fall of 1966 as Kennesaw Junior College with an initial enrollment of 1,014 students. It has since grown into one of Georgia's largest universities, adding a second campus in Marietta through its 2015 consolidation with Southern Polytechnic State University.
