Bradley Observatory

Bradley Observatory is the astronomical teaching and research facility of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, built in 1949 and dedicated in 1950 in honor of William C. and Sarah Hall Bradley. Its principal instrument is the 30-inch Lewis H. Beck telescope, a Cassegrain reflector built in 1930 and acquired by the college in 1947; until 1972 it was the largest telescope in the Southeast. The building also houses the 70-seat Delafield Planetarium with its vintage Zeiss star projector. The observatory continues Agnes Scott's long astronomical tradition, which reaches back to early 20th-century faculty observations, and it hosts free public open-house evenings featuring talks, planetarium shows, and stargazing.
