The Story
This burial ground adjoins Cross Roads Church, which stood at the junction of the old Dallas-Acworth and Burnt Hickory roads and became a key point in Federal army operations during the fighting around New Hope Church and Dallas between May 25 and June 5, 1864. Confederate and Union columns passed this crossroads repeatedly in the campaign that ultimately pushed the armies toward Kennesaw Mountain. Today more than a thousand graves rest on ground that witnessed those Civil War troop movements.
