Middle Georgia State University was created on January 8, 2013, through the consolidation of Macon State College (founded 1968) and Middle Georgia College in Cochran (founded 1884), forming a baccalaureate-granting institution first called Middle Georgia State College. It gained university status and its current name in 2015. The university operates five campuses across the region, in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, with the Macon campus being its largest.
