The Story
This small burial ground stands beside the Berry College Chapel, a sanctuary raised by students in 1915 and modeled on Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia. College founder Martha Berry, who died in 1942, rests on the chapel's south side, while the graves to the north are reserved for longtime members of the Berry community. A rule adopted by the college trustees in 1957 limited burial here to those who had given at least 25 years of service to the school, and several of the people interred have campus buildings named in their honor.
