OAK Hill & the Martha Berry Museum

Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum is the antebellum home and interpretive museum of Berry College founder Martha Berry, set on a 170-acre estate near Mount Berry, on the edge of Rome, Georgia. The Greek Revival mansion stands on the site of an 1847 farmhouse that was used by Union troops during the Civil War and later burned in 1884, after which Martha's father, Thomas Berry, rebuilt it in its current columned form. The museum opened in 1972 to tell the story of Martha Berry and the schools she founded, and Oak Hill remains preserved much as it was at her death in 1942. Visitors tour the house, historic gardens, and outbuildings, and view exhibits and the college's art holdings in the adjacent Martha Berry Museum.
