The Tour
The Savannah College of Art and Design's Atlanta home isn't a single quad but a scatter of adapted buildings threaded through Midtown, from a 1956 modernist tower to an 1883 Victorian mansion. This walk links its signature fashion museum, its digital-media powerhouse, its downtown theater, and the restored Peters House. Wear comfortable shoes: the stops span roughly two miles of Midtown sidewalk.
SCAD Atlanta Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Atlanta, built around its campus side. It's one of 37 Georgia Roam tours in Atlanta — each a different route through the city, on your own schedule.
The walk covers 4 stops over about 2.2 miles and roughly 1 hour 30 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
SCAD's Atlanta location is spread across Midtown, and this walk connects its signature places. You'll see the 1956 office building on Peachtree Street that serves as the main academic hub and houses SCAD FASH, a museum devoted to fashion and film. There's also a former television station now used for animation, visual effects and game design, and a 14-story student tower with a theater on its ground floor, home to SCAD's yearly TV and animation festivals.
The standout is Ivy Hall, an 1883 Queen Anne house that architect Gottfried L. Norrman designed for Edward C. Peters. SCAD restored it and reopened it in 2008 as a center for writing and the arts. Its porches, gables and decorative tiles are a rare survivor of Victorian Midtown.
The walk covers about two miles of Midtown sidewalk, so wear comfortable shoes. If you want to go inside SCAD FASH, check its hours first, since it charges admission and closes between some exhibitions. The Georgia Roam app plays each stop's story as you arrive.
