The Tour
A downtown campus woven through the streets of Atlanta. A self-guided Georgia Roam campus tour.
Georgia State University Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Atlanta, built around its campus side. It's one of 37 Georgia Roam tours in Atlanta — each a different route through the city, on your own schedule.
The walk covers 7 stops over about 1.3 miles and roughly 2 hours 6 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
Georgia State has no gates or quad. Its campus is downtown Atlanta itself, and this walk shows how a night school for office workers spread block by block through the city's business district. You'll pass the university's main library towers and the plaza where students gather between classes. Hurt Park is a small green space with a fountain, dedicated in 1940, and it serves as the campus's front lawn.
Several stops are older buildings the university has taken over. The Rialto Center for the Arts on Forsyth Street stands where a 1916 movie palace once operated, and today it hosts jazz, dance and world music. The most unexpected piece of the campus sits well south of the core: the stadium built for the 1996 Olympics, which then served for two decades as the Braves' Turner Field. It's now Center Parc Stadium, where the Panthers play football.
The walk covers about 1.3 miles on city sidewalks. Weekday daytime during the semester, when campus is busiest, shows Georgia State at its liveliest. Weekends are quieter, and on fall Saturdays the stadium end of the route fills with football crowds. Stay aware of downtown traffic at crossings. The Georgia Roam app shares each stop's story as you arrive.
